If you look at the world’s most valuable companies, you won’t be surprised to find the likes of Apple, Microsoft, and Google. But one name does stand out: Tencent. The company is worth more than the likes of Facebook, Mastercard, and Samsung, and yet if you asked the majority of people what Tencent does, you’d be met with a confused look. The truth, is that Tencent does everything. Because whilst Tecent’s mascot is a friendly-looking penguin - a more accurate animal to embody this conglomerate would be a giant octopus, with tentacles reaching into almost every industry you can think of, all over the world. Whether you realize it or not, you almost certainly use products or services Tencent is involved with.

However in Tencent’s home country of China, it’s a very different story; everyone is aware that Tencent dominates their lives. And that’s because in China, Tencent has achieved the seemingly impossible: one app to rule them all. Tencent created an app called WeChat that's been dubbed ‘the everything app’ because almost all of China’s 1.4 billion population use this app for an average of 4 hours every day, more than the average American user spends on all social media apps combined.

And the reason people in China use WeChat so much is because it’s basically every app you can think of rolled into one. Its essentially Facebook, PayPal, Whatsapp, Netflix, Google, Spotify, Uber, Yelp, Tinder, Zoom, YouTube, Deliveroo, Amazon and lots lots more all in one single app. You pay your bills through it, call your friends through it, and essentially live your entire life through it. However one single company having access to literally all your data - from your exact location to your entire bank history to every message and call and search you’ve ever made - it’s a lot. And then it gets worse when you realize that the line between where Tencent ends and the Chinese government begins, is blurry. Meaning, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has access to all that information as well, making WeChat one of the most powerful surveillance tools ever.

Plus, private messages and images that are sent through Tencent’s apps like WeChat are scanned to see if they need to be censored - if you say anything the Chinese government doesn’t want you to, you could end up in jail, or disappear. The Chinese government has even openly confirmed that it can access deleted WeChat conversations.

Tencent has used its vast wealth and resources to expand into many industries. They are also the largest gaming company in the world - with revenue significantly higher than any competitor. Gaming is just one of countless different industries Tencent operates in. Also Tencent’s Payments division is nearly as big as PayPal’s entire business. And its reported WeChatPay generates over 1 billion payment transactions per day - more than Visa and Mastercard. well. Now that I have my film and
production company... what would be the
best way of getting funding for that
particular company sir? Hey Jay, thanks
for your question so the funding
question. So there is a lot of different
answers to this question. Because there's
a lot of different ways you can source
funding. So I'm gonna start with one in
particular. Let's say that you absolutely
have no connections, you have no banking
connections, investor connections
whatever. It may be, start with yourself.
What money can you come up with to get
this thing going? Now the thing is
look around maybe your house right there
might be some certain things that you
haven't used in a while. What about that
treadmill that's sitting in your
basement you haven't used in a long time
right? Start with that. You go on
Craigslist, start selling things. Speaking
about Craigslist, another thing that
people don't really know is Craigslist
has a whole free section people actually
are giving away stuff for free that if
you go on and you can you pick up that
stuff you can then go on Facebook and
then sell those products on Facebook. And
start raising money that way. It's money
that you didn't have that you didn't
have to come out of pocket with. All
you're doing is you're just picking up a
product and then selling it on the
internet. So that is a way that you can
start getting some seed funds if you
absolutely know nobody have no
connections and your friends and family
aren't willing to give you any money.
Start with yourself because you're gonna
be the best bet in getting this project
raised. Because you have the biggest
heart behind it and getting this thing
funded. And you're gonna do what it takes
or else you should do what it takes to
get your film funded. So it's a couple of
ways that you might be able to get
started in raising those initial dollars.

At the highest level, athletes are well-matched in terms of their physical abilities, conditioning, and skill level. But often that is not enough to win and perform on the biggest of stages like the Olympic games. Developing strategies and techniques to get athletes minds in the best possible condition for optimal performance is increasingly important for sports teams and coaches.

Martin will provide an overview of the kinds of techniques that elite athletes use to prepare psychologically for their sport, give details of the scientific research into these techniques and how they work, and how the techniques might be used by competitive athetes and coaches to maximise performance.

Watch as a storm chaser can’t get out of the way in time and get hits by a tornado in the Houston area.

On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, a potent storm system moved across the southern plains causing a tornado outbreak along the Gulf Coast and impacting the Houston area. I chased storms southwest of Houston, but those storms struggled to get going. As the storms moved east and across Houston, they flipped the switch and went tornadic, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tornado emergency for areas including Baytown, Texas.

This video shows a tornado hitting me in Baytown, TX near the Baytown Nature Preserve and the resulting damage. I attempted to avoid the circulation but traffic and stop lights meant that it overtook me. Thankfully I was not hurt but I should not have put myself in that place. Do Not Attempt.
