What type of video should you make for your business? | Animation, Live Action or Factual

‘What type of video content should you be making for your business?’ is a question all marketers, internal communicators and health and safety professionals should be asking themselves because the ultimate goal is to create engaging video communications for your audience.

The type of video you can create will be mostly dictated to you by the confines of the project: budget, delivery deadlines, audience, message, goal, etc.

BUT, you will always have three options for the type of video content you can create: Animation, Live Action or Factual/Documentary.

In this film I use my experience and expertise making corporate videos to share the pros and cons of creating animation,, live action drama and factual video content for business communications.

Animated internal communications are excellent for making bold, brave video content, which can then be leveraged for other marketing activities. Animated safety videos also allow for the creation of scenes and scenarios that would be expensive/difficult to create using live action. Animated video content for internal communications also works supremely well when communicating with geographically diverse audiences as animation is a visual language that crosses boundaries.

Live action drama is based on storytelling, it’s about using the formats we are familiar with – commercials, drama, soap operas, etc – and applying those techniques to the creation of engaging video communications.

I love creating animated and live action internal communications, but they are time-consuming and expensive because of the numerous processes and skills required for their creation. Therefore, I would advise all businesses and communicators to adopt a factual video content strategy for their business. I say this because the bulk of video content consumed worldwide is factual. People like watching other people in documentaries, reality shows, and on YouTube. Factual content has so many sub genres from which to create content and develop a strategy based on consistency and engaging with your audience. And it can do all these things because its creation is cheaper, quicker and easier than it has ever been.
